„beGEISTert“
Info: carambolage.ekkaia.at

DANIEL FRIEDEMANN
On the 12th December 1950 Daniel Friedemann was born in Vienna as the second son of Prof. Ernst Fuchs a painter and sculptor and Gertrude Fuchs ,born Baschnegger, then a student of piano and always a poet. After going to school, though without completing high- school, he began to study art in 1967 by going to the "Werkkunstschule" in Mannheim-Germany-,near Freiburg im Breisgau-Germany-,where he had spent the years before. He continued his studies 1968 at the "Akademie der schönen Künste"(academy of fine arts) in Munich-Germany-,in the master class for painting of Prof. Mac Zimmermann-a surrealist of the Max Ernst-generation. In 1969 he pursued his studies on painting in Vienna at the "Akademie für angewandte Kunst" (Academy of decorative arts), in the master class for painting of Prof. Wolfgang Hutter until 1972. In 1976 he joined the class for sculpture of Prof. Wander Bertoni at the above academy, for two semesters.
Many journeys to the USA and Mexico in 1973-75 and all over Europe in the years after, to the Near East and North Africa, have left their traces in the work of Daniel Friedemann.
In New York Hans Arp’s sculptural work and the sculpture of the Greek antique inspired him and he since keeps working with sculpture.
The comprehensive presence of Surrealism in New York and reading Andre Breton’s " Manifest of Surrealism" encouraged him in pursuing his way as an artist. Daniel Friedemann was then also greatly inspired by the great retrospective exhibition of Max Ernst’s work at the Guggenheim-Museum in New York in 1975.
Back in Vienna in the 1980s, he attended lectures at the university of Vienna on sculpture of the Greek classic period and Hellenism by Prof. Alzinger and on roman painting of the Hellenistic period by Prof. Kenner. A series of lectures by Prof. Schmoll - Eisenwerth about the work of Rodin and the impulse of Rodin’s art , closely studied at his museums in Paris and Meudon, were of great meaning for Daniel Friedemann’s sculptural work.
In the 1980es&90s Daniel Friedemann spent much time with the art of the great masters of the Italian renaissance, mannerism and baroque. For the more profound understanding of the painting of these periods, he copied some works by painters of that time. As there are Titian, Tintoretto (renaissance) and Francesco Solimena and Corrado Giaquinto (baroque). Also seeing the retrospective of Claude Monet at the Grand Palais in Paris , in 1980,left its traces in the work of Daniel Friedemann.
In the 1970es right into the 80es, about until 1985, he signed his works with Daniel Fuchs, but since then kept signing his work with Daniel Friedemann.
Also in the 1980es Daniel Friedemann started to work in the medium of mosaic. Thanks to numerous visits to Pompeii, he spent some time at the school for mosaic in Spilimbergo – Italy - Fruli- to learn the technique of mosaic making.
Quotation: "In quite a number of my paintings and graphics I transform the conclusions I draw from art history, without ever denying my surrealist roots. With sculpture, the portrait and the nude is my central subject matter. But I also love painting flowers for the mere joy of the lights appearance in color and form."

MICHAEL FUCHS
"Daphne und Apoll"
Art is the very mirror of who we are, our aspirations and hopes, our fears and struggles, our loves and hates. She reflects our inner self, our dignity and weakness, our inadequacies as well as strengths. But art is also a window to a world envisioned by faith alone. The world of the saints and angels, the heaven of God. It is from the Creator that we originate and have our being. And so the world of art we create, is also His gift of inspiration to us. The gift of His tender love.
Michael Fuchs

OTTO RAPP
"Revelation 20"
Born in 1944 in Felixdorf, Lower Austria, Otto lived and was educated in Vienna, where later he worked as a clerk in the Transport and Insurance Business. After completing service in the Austrian Air Force, he traveled throughout Europe, eventually settling in Stockholm, Sweden.
As a Painter he was initially self taught, studying in the various Galleries and Museums. In Vienna, Otto was often ‘hanging out’ at the Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste, where he admired the work of the Wiener Schule des Phantastischen Realismus represented there by the Professors Ernst Fuchs, Rudolf Hausner and Arik Brauer. In Stockholm, Otto found out that he was washing dishes in the very same Restaurant where years earlier another Viennese Artist, Fritz Hundertwasser , the ‘Austrian Gaudi’ as he was later known as, had worked the same job. Encouraged by an art dealer in Gamla Stan, Otto began to paint more seriously. Busking on the streets of Gamla Stan with a Dutch artist, his very first painting was sold to a passer-by by his artist friend while Otto stood in the employment office line - this paid for a lavish meal for both of them that day.
Traveling around in 1968, Otto wound up in Western Canada where he eventually settled in Lethbridge, Alberta, the place Otto still calls home today. It was in Canada where the majority of Otto's mature work was produced (under the sponsorship of a small Lethbridge Gallery).
Working for the Canadian Pacific Railway, he quit in 1977 to attend the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program at the University of Lethbridge, graduating (with great distinction) in 1982.
In Canada, Otto participated in many exhibitions, and held several Solo Shows, culminating in the pivotal 1994 showing at The Prairie Art Gallery in Grande Prairie, Alberta, which earned him the moniker The Mystic .
Throughout his years in Canada, Otto had been the subject of many reviews and newspaper articles as well as local television shows in Calgary and Lethbridge while being active as an Artist, Art Instructor, Curator, Studio Technician, Art Critic and Juror.
ARTIST STATEMENT
BOGOMIL'S UNIVERSE
the Inner Universe of Otto Rapp
Bogomil's Universe is an excursion into the realms of the Inner Universe - a parallel universe that exists in the mind, and glimpses thereof are presented here. I am increasingly reluctant to speak of my work as strictly and exclusively surrealistic. While Surrealism provided the initial spark, and some of the methods of Surrealism are employed, I do not suppress the influence of the rational and selective focus. Thus, particularly in later works, there is to be found a conscious juxtaposition of the complementary forces of inspiration and reason.
I do not concern myself with the elimination of the rational, the exclusivity of the irrational and the absurd, but presentation of the conscious and subconscious world as an inseparable whole. I draw my inspirations from the layered labyrinth underground which represents the other side of life, which is an inner imaginative-inspirational counterpart to the outer world, expressed with the help of logic-alogic associations, analogisations and symbolism.

So, I am from Romania, living in Belgium right now, started painting by my own since I was a child. I worked as graphic designer making advertising for some magazines in Romania and for Nikon company. But one day I've decided to leave my country and looking for another job in Europe, where I was hopping to study painting also. My works are made with oil colors mostly, and I have few pastels. I'm very happy that I'll be painting and exhibiting in Austria this summer.

"Archangel Michael"
“My artwork is a journey of expanding creativity. Working in various mediums from 2d to 3d, painting has been, and is, the focus of my passion. I utilize an extensive array of finishes to enhance any home or business. I also create commission fine art painting and photography to accent your interior design. In collaboration, I have welcomed and worked with Architects, Contractors, Interior Designers, Artists and Clients for over 25 years.” Visit me at my home Studio in Sedona or on my website: www.jflormanartgallery.com
My paintings are a combination of intuition and deep inner listening. Each piece is an invitation for you to explore the energy that in-forms the images. As each painting unfolds I am in awe of what chooses to manifest through the energetic alchemy of vision, oil and color. From the first internal impulse I begin to ask : What are you? What comes next? What are you expressing? And, the painting begins to flow with each stroke.
JÜRGEN SWART
"The breast"
Jürgen Swart began his drawing-study in the year 2000 with Prof. Phil Rubinov Jacobson and has expanded his studies in the old master techniques of painting at his summer academy in Reichenau since then. He is inspired by the female form as a muse but also by the faces of the north american indians ..

''I grew up in a small village in Romania . Although I grew up under Communism I had a happy childhood and was fascinated by the beauty and nature of my surroundings. Plants, animals, people, clouds, wind, rain and the changing landscape were all dear friends in my childhood. I discovered my passion for color and drawing early on in Primary School. A great Romanian painter, Dragos Vitelaru, was my first art teacher. Romanian artists such as Nicolae Grigorescu, Sabin Balasa and Tonitza served as early sources of inspiration for me. But it was when I first saw the sketches and paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, that I knew I wanted to become a painter.
An extraordinary event happened to me when I was 19 and for the next 20 years I put my brushes down and did not paint at all. A chain of circumstances led me on to another path and for many years I worked as a Nurse. In 2003 I decided to study psychology, and now I am a Psychotherapist with competencies in Integrative Psychotherapy. Through my own personal process and development I rediscovered the spark for painting. It was indeed a great shock. Psychotherapy helped me to understand the dynamics of my mind, the need for artistic expression and sublimation. This process naturally incorporated archetypal symbolism which in turn initiated a personal healing process. I realized the awesome power art can have in this healing process. At this time, C.G. Jung served as a strong influence and opened the flood gates to Visionary Art, Symbolism and Alchemy. Currently, I have a strong attraction to the work of Dali, Ernst Fuchs, Steven Kenny and many others, and of course the unique opportunity to study with Professor Philip Rubinov Jacobson. I think the "Mische Technique" will help me to improve my visual language. I am honored to meet the artistic world of Vienna, the wonderful artists there and to be part of this exhibition is a veritable dream come true.''
REBECCA DASH
"Riggor Mortis Delivered with the Morning Paper"
Just shy of 25 years old, Rebecca Dash grew up in a small community north of Seattle, Washington and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in History from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Though she has been making art since before she could speak, she only decided to pursue painting seriously at the age of 23. Virtually self-taught until now, Rebecca inclines toward the slightly fantastical, surreal and macabre in subject matter, but prefers the use of these styles within a solid and grounded framework. Her fascination with the mische technique and its ability to convey the macabre led her to the Old Masters, New Visions seminar. The painting “Rigor Mortis Delivered with the Morning Paper” was her first attempt at the technique, completed before arrival.
Perhaps due to her educational background, Rebecca finds primary inspiration in the narrative rather than the visual. In the future, her plans for art include reflecting her feminist beliefs by completing a series of paintings of fascinating historical and literary women she has studied; women who, despite their importance and intrigue, were left out of the narrative or relegated to footnotes and side characters, likely due to their sex. The drawings of Lola Montez, Anne Boney and Mary Read are preliminary drawings for future paintings.
